Microgrid Building Blocks: Concept and Feasibility

For power grids with high penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs), microgrids can provide operation and control capabilities for clusters DERs load. This paper proposes conceptual design an MBB integrated features conversion, control, communications, resulting in systemwide controller entire microgrid. The results feasibility study indicate that, utility-connected mode, MBB-based exchange while serving regulation optimal dispatch functions. In resiliency (islanded) mode when microgrid disconnected from utility system, system acts stabilize frequency voltage under small or large disturbances. supported by communication that meets latency requirements imposed dynamics as well data acquisition time. extended IEEE 13-node used model validate proposed functionality.
